Last Wednesday, November 20th, the Legislature of Buenos Aires (Argentina) declared the show Gardel Universe: A Symphonic Experience a Cultural Interest. The ceremony was held at the Salón Dorado of the Palacio de la Legislatura de Buenos Aires.

Gardel Universe founder and creator, Claudio Herrera took the floor to thank those present, including Deputy Francisco Lupias, the project’s promoter in the Legislature, which 60 deputies unanimously approved. Herrera emphasized the significance of Gardel Universe in terms of entertainment, culture, and history, describing it as a vehicle to keep Gardel’s legacy alive in the collective imagination as a disruptive, innovative, and eclectic artist—a mass phenomenon—and to connect it with new generations. He also acknowledged the efforts of Damián Herrera Siegel, responsible for the proposal’s institutional relations, whose work was crucial in strengthening the connection between the show and various cultural entities.

Among the attendees were several legislators from the Parliament, as well as representatives from the embassies of New Zealand, Brazil, and Costa Rica. Additionally, some media from Brazil travelled exclusively to cover this event, highlighting the international interest in Gardel Universe as a high-impact cultural project.

One of the most moving moments of the day was the presentation of the testimony from Andrea, the mother of a child diagnosed with autism, who shared how her son managed to connect deeply with music during a Gardel Universe performance. Andrea emotionally recounted how the show allowed her son to enjoy a unique experience, emphasizing the positive impact of music on individuals with autism. This testimony underscored one of the main characteristics of Claudio Herrera’s work: his commitment to ensuring that each of his shows also serves a social function, using art as a tool to foster inclusion and transform lives.

The event was accompanied by unforgettable musical moments. Singer Débora Contreras, alongside pianist Brian Engel, delivered a performance of the classic ‘El día que me quieras’ that deeply moved the audience. Additionally, members of the Mario Abramovich Tango Orchestra School gave a memorable performance, featuring a talented 9-year-old girl who stood out as the first violin, symbolizing the union between tradition and cultural future.

Before concluding, Herrera emphasized the contributions of the team behind Gardel Universe, particularly mentioning Silvia Rojas, María Buenos Aires, César Adrián Bonato, Gall Miguez, Martín Ceraolo, Ezequiel Giunta, Marcos Barilari, Lorena Gentile, and Julio Mariano, all of whom were present at the event and contribute daily to the success of this initiative.

Gardel Universe represents much more than a show. It is a living and unprecedented tribute that transcends borders and time, connecting Gardel not only with his long-time admirers but also with new generations who discover in his music a bridge to our cultural identity. With an approach that integrates art, education, entertainment, culture, and inclusion, Universo Gardel reaffirms the significance of the great Carlos Gardel as a symbol of our history and a driving force of our culture.

Created by Argentinian-born producer Claudio Herrera, this handcrafted celebration reveals the musical and visual legacy of one of the most emblematic Latino artists in the world.

Gardel Universe is an elegant show that begins as soon as the audience enters the theatre. This multimedia experience features an orchestra with more than 40 musicians on stage and guest performers (singers, actors and narrators), giving the audience an emotional and unique immersive journey, both visually and sonically.

Its uniqueness lies in the unprecedented artistic concept. The experience deals tangentially with tango, as this is only a part of what Gardel represented in the world as a singer, composer and actor.

It is a wide-ranging portrait of the work and life of this major cultural and global phenomenon, including his relationship with France, New York, and London as well as film, radio and fashion.

Enjoying the musical universe of “El Zorzal Criollo” in academic versions with symphonic instrumentation is a journey that goes straight to the heart of the emotions.
